A story can be written in so many ways. This is not a tragic tale. Nor an inspirational one. It could possibly be described as a love story of sorts. Or a story of possibilities.
Smoke and mirrors, swings and roundabouts, the life of Kimtortion has always been filled with intrigue even before she ran away with the circus. Her dark and mysterious past drew her to the art form after dwelling in other artistic realms of dance, acting, design, and classical music. Never feeling entirely at home in any of these endeavors, whilst navigating the ambiguous path of her second haphazard university degree, Kimtortion stumbled upon circus as a way to combine her artistic interests as well as develop a new and exciting passion. Finding her niche primarily as a contortionist but also as an aerialist and burlesque performer, Circus was the answer to many questions she always had… The right to her wrongs… The missing puzzle piece and so on…
Kimtortion performed in all sorts of magical places doing all sorts of amazing things. However it was in 2007 that Kimtortion’s dreams were fully realised. She started performing at Circus Joseph Ashton whilst simultaneously performing with Sugar Blue Burlesque and it was at this time that circus went from a passionate pursuit to LIFE.
So…Kimtortion found freedom and love in circus. She also literally found love in the circus when she met Max Balls, a German juggler. He was part of her happy ending… The icing on the cake… The cherry on top. Everything seemed to be wrapped up in a neat little bow and covered in glitter.
However, the story does not end there…
Kimtortion’s life took a turn one day in 2009 that some would describe as tragic. She took a fall. Literally, a big fall, from a great height and landed hard on the ground. Concrete in fact. She broke in many places. Some even say she broke their hearts. She could not feel. Her legs stopped working. In an instant things changed in a very big way.
But as they say, the show must go on.
When something cannot be fixed you redesign the game. Invent. Innovate. To continue life as a circus performer certainly might have seemed impossible. However there was never a doubt in Kimtortion’s mind that she would return to her home in the circus ring.
The rag doll act Kimtortion performed with Joseph Ashton ‘before’ was to become the key to her future…
After the necessary healing of the broken bits that COULD be healed, Kimtortion set to work with Max Balls, who had remained by her side. Together they aimed to create something that would not just ‘work’ given the new logistical circumstances, but actually MARVEL audiences where seldom few would know the story behind the spectacle.
Less than a year after the ‘events’, Kimtortion returned to the circus ring with her new act at Circus Joseph Ashton.
The toys come alive at midnight to this day.
So who is Kimtortion? You could say she is a rag doll with many tricks up her sleeves and a head full of ideas.
Whoever she is, her story is not yet over…
