Day of the Diva is a weekend workshop of non-stop dance, burlesque and circus classes just for women, in all the hottest styles, to make any girl look and feel like a sexy superwoman!
Day of the Diva is for women only, all ages are welcome and you don’t need any experience whatsoever!
One exception: The Burlesque class is for women 18 years and older.
Dance, burlesque and the circus arts aren’t just for professional performers! These activities are a lot of fun, fantastic exercise, and a great way to express yourself and make friends. Plus these are all exciting solo artforms, so you don’t even need a partner! So grab your girlfriends, your mum, your daughter, and come along to the Day of the Diva workshops!
Schedule
Day of the Diva consists of twelve dance classes spread over two days. Saturday will be held at the Burlesque Lounge in Northbridge, and Sunday at the WA Circus School in Fremantle. You can take just one class, or a few, do a whole day, or take the whole weekend!

Class Descriptions
Contortion (Stretching & Flexibility)
Take the stretch class of your life with professional contortionist, Kimtortion! Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a contortionist, all levels of fitness and flexibility are welcome. Kimtortion will ease you into the world of contortion, with an invigorating stretching session to stretch out tight muscles, release toxins and improve your flexibility. You’ll become aware of muscles in your body you didn’t even know you had, and find out the secrets behind Kimtortion’s astonishing flexibility! This class will give you all the tools you need to become a super supple and limber diva, learn how to develop the splits, backbends and to wrap your legs around your head! A stretch class unlike any other you’ll find in Perth, don’t miss out!
* Wear loose, comfortable clothing (eg: yoga or track pants) and bring a towel.
** For those intending to take the Trapeze class on Sunday, the Contortion class beforehand is highly recommended as a warmup
1920s Charleston
The Charleston was the dance that captured the spirit of the 1920s. It was danced with wild abandon by a new generation of independent young women, in the same decade that American women first won the right to vote. For jazz era girls, this fad dance was a physical expression of their new liberation. It’s also experiencing a huge revival around the world and, well, it’s a heap of fun! It’s energetic, upbeat and danced to toe-tapping hot jazz. Starting with the basics, we’ll then run through a big Charleston repertoire, guaranteed to bring out your inner flapper!
* Please wear flat shoes with a sole that is not too sticky.
Burlesque
Burlesque is the hottest trend in town, bringing together a sizzling dance style with elaborate vintage costumes, cool retro tunes and a lot of sassy fun! In this class you’ll learn how to be a total glamour queen, how to walk (even in sky-high heels!) and how to exude confidence and sex appeal! We’ll explore the art of the tease-artiste - how to play with a strap, peel a glove or strip a stocking to tantalise an audience… or just that special someone! And of course, we’ll cover the fundamentals of burlesque dance - the bump, grind and shimmy!
Please note that this class is for girls 18yrs and older
* Wear a pair of high heels that you are comfortable to dance in.
Showgirl Dance
It’s time for glitz, glamour and a lot of razzle dazzle! Showgirl dancing is the ultimate girly fantasy, with all the old-world glamour of the 1940s and 1950s! If you’ve ever wanted to be a Rockette, a Vegas showgirl or steal the spotlight on Broadway, then this is the class for you! Drawing on vintage chorus lines, Broadway jazz dance and Parisian Can-Can, this class will introduce you to the style and explore some fun, classic moves. Just add feathers and a whole lot of glitter, and you’re ready for the spotlight!
* Wear a pair of high heels that you are comfortable to dance in.
Hula Hooping
Come have a tonne of fun with hula hoops, learn how to make it look sexy, plus discover the best abdominal workout ever! Learn to get hooping on your waist, hands, and feet, how to move the hoop up and down your body, and an assortment of tricks. Try 2 hoops, 3 hoops or even 20 hoops!
1960s Go-Go Dance
Go back in time to the swinging sixties, when there was a new dance fad every week! The wild, upbeat music is guaranteed to get your toes tapping in this energetic class, and in no time you’ll be doing the Monkey, the Wahtusi, the Swim, the Hully Gully, the Mashed Potato, the Twist and many more! If you love to dance or even if you have two left feet, come along and get fit the fun way, then hit the dancefloor in style!
Burlesque Dance
Come and learn how to bump and grind like the authentic burlesque starlets of the 1940s and 50s! This sassy, sexy retro dance style will make you feel like a diva, guaranteed! Learn how to move to those slow, bluesy tunes you’ve always loved, find a sizzling dance style that suits your body type, and discover the sexiest way to get fit! You’ll shimmy, shake, undulate, bump, grind, wiggle, jiggle, twirl and swirl your way through all the classic burlesque moves. This class is about burlesque dance only, so all ages are welcome!
** Wear a pair of high heels you are comfortable dancing in.
Trapeze
One of the most beautiful and enchanting acts in the circus! The WA Circus School has several static trapezes of varying heights where you can learn a number of manoeuvres on the bar and in the ropes. This class will introduce you to the concepts of the art of trapeze, and cover proper technique and posture. Become a high-flying diva in no time!
Acrobalance
Acrobalance is human balancing, or acrobatics in a group of people. For Day of the Diva you get to join in a fun girls-only acrobalance class, that will introduce you to the fundamentals of acrobalance, and get you balancing in fun and amazing positions! Acrobalance is sometimes called acrobatics for cheats, because you don’t need to be an acrobat to do it, anyone can! It’s also a lot of fun and very spectacular. You’ll learn all sorts of girl balances – duo, trio and group!
What to Wear/Bring
Specific things to wear or bring for each class are noted above in the class descriptions. So unless otherwise stated, you should wear loose, cool, comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict your movement. Wear flat, closed shoes that you are comfortable moving around in and that don’t stick to the floor too much. Bring a bottle of water to sip on throughout the class. If you are taking a whole day of classes, you may like to bring lunch and snacks. There’s a break between classes in the middle of each day, for lunch.

$16.50 for a single class
$13.50 per class, if taking two or more classes in a day
$65 for a full day (that’s just $10.50 per class!)
Payment must be made in cash on the day.
